Transfer news: Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he is still in the market for two players in the January transfer window but refused to be drawn on speculation linking Arsenal with Lyon’s Yoann Gourcuff.
Reports in France suggested that the 26-year-old midfielder has been offered to clubs in England, Spain and Turkey with the Gunners believed to be front-runners for his signature.
Asked whether this was true, Wenger said: “I don’t come out on that because it would put Lyon in a bad position and the player as well.
“You have to respect that the player has a contract somewhere, is playing and as long as the transfer is not done for anybody it’s better not to talk about it.
“If it doesn’t work then he has to continue to play there, where he is.”
Wenger did, however, insist that Arsenal had never been in the hunt for Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha with the youngster now poised to join Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Wenger said: “I don’t know if he [Zaha] will go to Man United. If he goes to Man United good luck him.
“We were never in for Zaha. Never.”
