Arsene Wenger has revealed that Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla and Bacary Sagna are all fit for the visit of Norwich tomorrow but has played down the prospect of the two midfielders partnering each other for the first time.
The news is a boost for the Gunners boss after record signing Ozil had limped out of Germany’s 5-3 win over Sweden in midweek with a knee problem.
Spaniard Cazorla (ankle) has not featured since the 1-0 win over arch-rivals Tottenham at the start of September – 24 hours before the arrival of the £42.5million man, while Sagna had a hamstring complaint which kept him out of the 1-1 draw at West Brom almost a fortnight ago.
The Premier League kicks back into gear tomorrow after the international break with Wenger hopeful of having a relatively full squad to pick from, bar the likes of Theo Walcott and Abou Diaby.
“They should all be fit,” Wenger said of Ozil, Cazorla and Sagna. “The latest news is very good for Ozil. Cazorla is fit but has not played for a long time and Sagna’s muscle looks all right. He has a test today that will be positive on his hamstring.
“Everybody looks quite fit and well.”
The news opens up the possibility of playmakers Ozil and Cazorla playing together, though there will be some apprehension as to whether they can complement each other.
“You want all of your best players to play together in a very positive way,” Wenger said.
“I’m very happy at the moment with the team that has played up until now, so I do not expect anything special. I believe what is important is that instead of focusing on one or two players is to focus on developing ourselves as a team, improving our team play because there is still room for improvement.
“There’s still the desire inside the team to do that.”
