Arsene Wenger believes the return of Jack Wilshere can be crucial in helping Arsenal climb the table after their inconsistent start to the season.
Wilshere has finally overcome the injury problems which kept him out of action for well over a year and he got another 90 minutes under his belt in last night’s 1-1 draw with Everton.
“We [are building] a new team,” said Wenger after Theo Walcott’s early opener was cancelled out by Marouane Fellaini as the Gunners drew at Goodison Park.
“We now have Jack Wilshere back. Hopefully we can go from strength to strength.”
The Arsenal boss also called on his side to show the spirit they need to spark their season into life and begin climbing up the table.
“We have the spirit,” he said. “I feel we have some room for improvement in the final third.
“Overall, when you have the spirit, you have a chance. We have to show that now. We have to be consistent.”
Jem Maidment reflects on Arsenal’s campaign after Arsene Wenger’s side rediscovered their steel to confound Tottenham’s head coach Andre Villas-Boas.
