Arsene Wenger has revealed that Theo Walcott played with an injury in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park last night.
The England forward missed Arsenal’s previous two matches against Aston Villa and Montpellier with a shoulder injury suffered in the 5-2 win against Tottenham, but returned to the starting line up against Everton.
He made a scintillating start, scoring inside one minute with a deflected finish after collecting a pass from Aaron Ramsey.
Walcott completed 90 minutes but Wenger later revealed that he had hurt his ankle during the match and was not completely comfortable in the second half.
Wenger said: “He was injured. He was not 100 per cent in the second half. He got a little bit injured on his ankle.”
It remains to be seen whether the 23-year-old will face another spell on the sidelines.
Manager Arsene Wenger maintains Arsenal now have a third-place finish in their sights after relegating FA Cup winners Wigan with a 4-1 win at the Emirates Stadium - but his side could yet end up in a play-off with Chelsea for automatic Champions League qualification.
