Arsenal legend Pires urges Wenger to copy Man Utd methods

Former Gunner Robert Pires has told Arsene Wenger to follow the example of Manchester United and use more experienced players to help his youngsters.

Pires believes Arsenal’s squad lacks the balance of Sir Alex Ferguson’s and insists their struggles are down to a lack of experience.

The Gunners lie eighth in the Premier League table, a whopping 11 points behind leaders United, and Pires thinks Wenger needs to readdress his youth policy in order to turn them into a side more capable of challenging for major honours.

“Wenger’s strategy has changed, he wants to play with a young team but you can’t win things like that, it’s very difficult,” Pires told Talk Sport.

“[Sir Alex] Ferguson seems to have found the right balance between the mix of ‘old’ and experienced players alongside the young ones and I think that’s what’s missing right now at Arsenal.

“Arsenal’s problems are a result of this policy. The team lacks balance and for the new players who have arrived, such as Santi Cazorla and Lukas Podolski, this puts them under a lot of pressure.”
