Transfer news: Ibrahim Afellay has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League
Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova has dealt Arsenal and Liverpool a blow by ruling out the sale of Dutch midfielder Ibrahim Afellay.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer having struggled to break into the Catalan giant’s first team since joining the club from PSV in 2011.
But Vilanova has confirmed that the Dutchman will be staying at Barcelona.
“He is a high-quality footballer and we are counting on him,” Vilanova told reporters ahead of Barcelona’s pre-season match against German side Hamburg.
“There is no way he is leaving the club,” he added.
Fiorentina director Daniele Pradè insists there has been no contact from Arsenal over striker Stevan Jovetic.
