Transfer news: Lille have confirmed the signing of Arsenal and Newcastle target Florian Thauvin from Bastia.
The 20-year-old France youth international, who has three goals in 19 league games for Bastia this season, had been strongly linked with Alan Pardew’s side, while Arsene Wenger had also expressed an interest.
But Thauvin has snubbed Premier League interest to sign on with Lille until 2017, although he will be loaned straight back to Bastia until the end of the season.
He told Lille’s official website: “I am very happy to join the Lille.
“Lille is a very big club so I am very happy to be a part of it.”
Manager Arsene Wenger maintains Arsenal now have a third-place finish in their sights after relegating FA Cup winners Wigan with a 4-1 win at the Emirates Stadium - but his side could yet end up in a play-off with Chelsea for automatic Champions League qualification.
