Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar admitted that he had spoken to Robin van Persie about a move to Old Trafford.

The Dutchman made the switch in the summer after rejecting a new contract with the north Londoners.

“For Robin, at this age to leave Arsenal was a big decision for him and it’s working out perfectly for United,” the former stopper said.

“It’s a stable club, a great set of fans, the dressing room is a close-knit community.”
