Transfer news: Wayne Rooney would love to play alongside Arsenal’s Robin van Persie
Wayne Rooney thinks he could form a deadly partnership with Arsenal’s Robin van Persie, who is also being chased by Manchester City and Juventus.
United are front runners in the race to land the 29-year-old Netherlands star and Rooney would love the opportunity to link up with him at Old Trafford.
“Of course he’s a player that I admire,” Rooney said in the Daily Mirror.
Asked if he and Van Persie could play together, Rooney added: “I’d like to think so - but you’d have to ask the manager about that.
“There’s a lot of forwards here already with myself, Danny [Welbeck], Chicharito and Dimitar Berbatov, who’s still here.
“So there’s a lot of forwards fighting for a place.”
Manager Arsene Wenger maintains Arsenal now have a third-place finish in their sights after relegating FA Cup winners Wigan with a 4-1 win at the Emirates Stadium - but his side could yet end up in a play-off with Chelsea for automatic Champions League qualification.
