Poland legend Zbigniew Boniek has blasted West Ham’s Liverpool loanee Andy Carroll, saying his eight-year-old grandson is a better footballer than the England international.
Boniek, who is about to be announced as the president of the Polish Football Association, is not worried by Carroll’s threat ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier in Warsaw this evening.
He said: “My grandson Mateo moves better on the pitch than Andy Carroll and he has better coordination.”
Poland captain Marcin Wasilewski was equally dismissive of Carroll, saying: “We know he is tall and well built.
“He does all right in the air with the fights and he plays the ball quite well with his head.
“That’s how he scores most of his goals.”
He continued: “We are highly motivated for this game after what happened to us at home in the Euros.”
