TEARS were shed and candles lit as 200 friends and relatives remembered Ben Kinsella who was stabbed to death after a night out.

The midnight vigil exactly a year after the tragedy took place at the corner of North Road and York Way, Holloway - where 16-year-old Ben was knifed at about 2am on June 29, 2008.

Among the mourners was former EastEnders actress Brooke Kinsella, Ben's older sister.

The vigil finished at 2am when mourners lit candles and released two paper lanterns. Chloe Hester, 16, who lives off North Road, Holloway, used social networking website Facebook to organise the memorial. She said: "There were a few tears but Brooke said that if Ben had been there, he would have cracked a bad joke so we might as well be happy."

Michael Alleyne, 20, and Juress Kika, 19, both of Holloway, and Jade Braithwaite, 18, of Bow, east London, were given life sentences last month after being found guilty of murder. They will each serve at least 19 years.
