Cem Ahmet with dance partner Gemma Stoddard are proving a big hit on BBC1's Strictly Dance Fever
STRICTLY Dance Fever star Cem Ahmet is hoping to boogie his way to fame and fortune on the hit BBC1 talent show.

Mr Ahmet, who was born and raised in Bath Court on the St Luke's Estate, Finsbury, has made it through to the final stages of the popular dance contest hosted by Graham Norton.

Mr Ahmet and partner Gemma Stoddard, 23, have wowed the judges throughout the competition which began with gruelling auditions earlier this year.

They are now living in a Big Brother-style house and compete on live TV every Saturday to stay in the battle.

Proud mum Nesha Ahmet said: "I'm very proud, but then again I've always been proud of him.

"He is such a character, has a big heart and always has time for everyone.

"I'm so happy he is doing something he enjoys and he loves living in the house. When he first went it he said it was a huge bonus and every week he stays there is just fantastic.

"I hope he goes to the end but it's the public who will win it for him by voting."

Greek Cypriot Mr Ahmet went to St Luke's Primary School and Central Foundation secondary school.

He lives with his grandmother, mother and sister and works as a credit card salesman for Ryanair.

The family recently moved to south east London but Ms Ahmet says Islington has had a huge influence on all their lives.

She added: "He still spends half of his life in Islington because all his friends are there and he knows everyone in the neighbourhood.

"He goes to Joseph's hairdressers in Whitecross Street every week and loves it around there.
