Buses 'to blame for years of sleepless nights'
MAYOR of London Ken Livingstone has been blamed for stopping residents from getting a good night's sleep.
Angry residents have spoken out against the increase in buses in residential roads over the four years since Ken Livingstone - who runs Transport for London (TfL) - came into power.
They claim buses on route 153 in Hemingford Road, which run from the early hours, make their houses shake and cause sleepless nights.
One 61-year-old resident, of Hemingford Road, Islington, said: "We haven't had a good night's sleep in four years. Buses start at 5.20am. They are being pushed into residential streets but the buses are too big."
Civil servant Oliver Parker, 51, from Richmond Avenue, on the corner of Hemingford Road, added: "Buses are busy in rush hour but empty during the day - and because there's no-one in the bus, the drivers go faster. And it makes our houses shake when the buses come off humps. We have cracks in the ceiling."
A TfL spokeswoman said: "Since the Mayor came into power, buses are more reliable. If they weren't running, people further along the route would be stranded, especially after the Tube stops running."
Councillor Bridget Fox, Islington's executive member for sustainability, added: "Road humps make roads safer. We keep an open mind on new technology that will make speed humps quieter - but keeping roads safe is our first priority.
