City types drool over £45k festive hamper

A RESTAURANT is offering the ultimate Christmas gift for wine buffs - in the shape of what is claimed to be the world's most expensive yuletide hamper.
The £45,000 bumper package, available from Vivat Bacchus in Farringdon Street, Finsbury, includes a selection of the rarest and most sought-after meats, cheeses and wines - including an incredibly rare South African merlot that was requested by Nelson Mandela for his 85th birthday.
So far three hampers have been ordered.
Co-owner of Vivat Bacchus, Neleen Strauss, said: "Only a few bottles remain and we've got six of them.
"We were approached by several high profile City individuals wanting something special for Christmas. We've created hampers at £45,000, £30,000 and £15,000 along with some around the £2,000 mark.
"A local grocer recently launched an odds-and-sods hamper for £20,000 which included everything but the kitchen sink. We feel ours is more in keeping with what our customers really want for Christmas. It certainly doesn't contain any lemon curd that's for sure!
"There is a lot of speculation about City downturn and misery in the Square Mile, but we haven't seen any sign of it. All our diners say they are preparing for a very merry Christmas indeed!"
The £45,000 hamper contains a selection of 21 bottles of fine wine and includes caviar, Spanish ham and white truffle.
