Well done for great event to challenge racial stereotypes
I'M writing to congratulate the young organisers of the successful Kick Islamophobia event that was held at Market Road football pitches.
The event was organised by 10 women from the Young Muslim Voices project, which is part of Islington Council's Listen Up team. The project provides an opportunity for young Muslims to make their voices heard on issues that they feel strongly about.
The aim of Kick Islamophobia was to break down prejudices and bring different parts of the community together to celebrate diversity and challenge racial and religious stereotypes. Over 1,000 people attended, both young and old and from all different backgrounds and faiths.
A big thank you to all the speakers, acts, football players and volunteers who were amazing and all added to the day, and also to everyone who came along and supported the event.
This is the second year running that Kick Islamaphobia has been held and this is the biggest event of its type in Europe. Young Muslim Voices work really hard on giving a voice to members of the community who often feel marginalised.
With the support of Islington Council, they already have a number of other positive initiatives planned, which I'm looking forward to working on with them. - Noori Bibi, Young Muslim Voices Project manager, Listen Up, Islington Council.
