All quiet on the Iraq front

LIKE many Islington residents, I marched against the Labour government's support for the invasion of Iraq in 2004.

Liberal Democrats opposed the illegal and immoral Iraq war from the start. After much stalling, an inquiry is long overdue, but it must be a truly public one. The Labour Government lied to us about the reasons for the war. We deserve the truth now.

The Liberal Democrats' support for an open inquiry contrasts with the voting record of Islington South's current MP, Emily Thornberry. Unlike Islington's other MP, Jeremy Corbyn, Ms Thornberry has consistently voted against any inquiry into the war.

It seems as though this Labour government will never learn. After all the expenses scandals, you would have thought their first priority would be to restore trust in the political system.

Instead they now announce a secret inquiry into the war in Iraq. Is this meant to be an example of Gordon Brown's new open style of government? - Bridget Fox, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Islington South and Finsbury, Morton Road, N1.
