Community spirit

THE Spirit of London Awards are held this week, recognising young people in London who are a credit to their local communities. I'm proud that there are three nominations from Islington who are just that - the Islington Youth Theatre, 15-year-old MC and artist Liam O'Brien and 17-year-old Marlon Mellish, one of the country's best young boxers.

It's inspiring young people like these that the council would like to hear about for The Ben Kinsella Award, launched this year in memory of Ben Kinsella. Running alongside the annual Mayor's Civic Awards next March, the award will celebrate a young person whose positive actions have made their mark on their local community.

Good luck to all three Islington nominees at the Spirit of London Awards and anyone wanting to put forward their suggestions for a young person who they think deserves The Ben Kinsella Award can find all the details at http://www.islington.gov.uk/Council/political/Mayor/benkinsellaaward.asp - Councillor Terry Stacy, leader of Islington Council, Town Hall, Upper Street, N1.
