The Golden Egg Love Fest runs at the Shacklewell Lane Mosque over the weekend of April 22 - 23, offering music, dance, spoken word, yoga, food and spirituality

A weekend of interfaith celebration and diversity is coming to the Shacklewell Lane Mosque in Dalston. Running April 22 and 23, the Golden Egg Love Fest is a collaboration of music, dance, spoken word, yoga and various other spiritual activities.

Organised by Keef Wesolowski Miles, a yoga teacher and movement medicine practiononer, the festival is fundraising in support of local and international community projects, including the mosque’s repair and refurbishment fund, the Afrikaya Nursery School New Yundum in the Gambia, Colombian Healing the Land Project and the environmentally focused Terra Mirim Foundation in Brazil

Keef says: “The original idea came to me in a dream vision and relates to my personal passion for community, healing and the arts and my belief that we live in challenging times that invite creative initiations to encourage movements towards greater harmony and understanding within our complex and diverse society.”

The mosque, which used to be a synagogue, will host music acts such as a multicultural community drum circle with Kay Smith, who has performed at the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony, alongside Pearls of Islam, an acoustic duo of first generation Caribbean Muslims who accompany their voices with djembe, darbouka and guitar.

They are joined by Rachel Rose Reid, a Jewish storyteller, singer and poet, and Ajay Rajani, a 5Rythms dance teacher, to name but a few.

“We live in challenging times and I believe any cultural event that celebrates unity and diversity contributes a lot of positive energy to a complex conversation,” says Keef, adding that now is the time for this event, “because in a time of increasing separation, polarisation and conflict, I feel it is important to give energy and attention to that which unites us, that which speaks to our common humanity, that which celebrates the universal human spirit.”

Tickets are £30/£20 conc. for a day and £55/£40 for the weekend if bought in advance. Search The Golden Egg Love Fest on Facebook for tickets and information on the full line up, food, religious ceremonies and prayer.
