A host of comedy stars are on the bill for a beloved city farm’s funny fundraiser at the Union Chapel on Friday night.

Stewart Lee, Andy Zaltzman, and Nish Kumar are among the big names who are supporting Holloway’s Freightliners Farm, which attracts 45,000 people a year to its patch of urban countryside.

Together with Phil Wang, Lou Sanders, and host Tiff Stevenson, the comedians hope to raise big money with big laughs at the third annual A Night of Comedy for Freightliners Farm.

Like many charities, the farm, in Sheringham Road, has felt the pinch of the harsh economic climate over recent years with rising costs and less secure funding.

Thanks to the help of volunteers, staff members and the local community, who have raised much-needed funds over the last few years, the farm has managed to keep going.

But Freightliners still needs to raise at least £35,000 every year to make sure it can secure its future for many more years to come, on top of the £200,000 it needs annually to care for its animals, gardens, and farm site, as well as other essential costs.

The comedy fundraiser first started in 2013, when former Islington resident Alan Davies, star of QI and Jonathan Creek, came up with the idea with a local parent. He shared his vision with fellow comedians who agreed to donate their time and talents to the cause.

With the initial event a huge success, a second followed in 2014.

Now on its third run, ‘A Night of Comedy’ has become a major fundraiser for the city farm, which was founded behind King’s Cross in 1973, moving to Holloway five years later.
