Young men at Central Foundation Boy’s School excelled in the “harder” subjects this year with 91 per cent of students picking up an A* to C in one of the three sciences.

Overall the school in Finsbury matched the previous year’s figure of 50 per cent of grades A* to B and 80 at A* to C.

The school did however fail to emulate its 100 per cent pass rate achieved in 2013 with 99 per cent making the grade this time around.

Most went home happy this morning with 90 per cent of boys who applied achieving a place at the university of their choice.

Among them was Waseem Al-Abdulla who bagged himself A*s in maths and physics and an A in chemistry to book himself a spot at Bristol University to study civil engineering.

Also hitting the high grades were Maksud Rahman who will study chemistry at University College London after turning in two As and a B and Philip Wereko who grabbed himself two As and a C to seal a berth at Brunel University reading Economics and Accounting.

Students also got top grades in vocational courses with 50 per cent of scores at distinction, the equivalent to an A at A-level.

Dominique Nancy used the skills learnt from his BTEC Hospitality course to gain employment in a hotel in the Seychelles.

Jamie Brownhill, headteacher at the school, said, “I would like to congratulate all of our students on a wonderful set of results. My heartfelt thanks goes out to all of the teachers and support staff at the school. Their dedication has made these outcomes possible.”
