Olympic and Tour de France hero Bradley Wiggins rolled up to Newington Green to visit a working men’s club last week.

The champion cyclist and favourite for BBC Sports Personality of the Year was spotted posing for a Fred Perry photoshoot at the Mildmay Club on Friday morning.

Mary Hagan, a stewardess at the club, said: “It was very exciting to have him here.

“They were taking photos of him with different outfits on and I spoke to him for a few minutes. He was a very nice man and we invited him to join our darts team.

“It was nice to see him in the flesh after watching the Olympics and the Tour de France. He gets my vote for Sports Personality of the Year.”
