Toddlers in Islington have been hailed as eco-experts as Co-operative childcare announced its nursery in Clerkenwell has been recognised for its environmental achivements.

The Galway Street centre has been made a “Bronze” eco-school, accredited by Keeping Britain Tidy.

This means it has nominated a committee of children, completed a child-led evaluation of the nursery, and crated an action-plan to make it a greener place.

The youngsters have also been taking part in nature walks, building hedgehog homes, and feeding stations for butterflies,

They’ve also been learning how to save energy by turning off lights not in use.

Shukri Abdalla, of Co-operative Childcare, said: “We work hard to create the best nursery environment possible. The accreditation not only helps us make sure we do so in the most environmentally friendly way possible, it also provides brilliant opportunities.”
