A 16-year-old boy today denied a string of acid attacks on six moped riders in Stratford, Hackney and Islington. He will stand trial in January.

The attacks, which left one victim with life-changing injuries, took place in the space of 90 minutes on July 13.

They happened near Stratford station; Queensbridge Road, Haggerston; Shoreditch High Street; Cazenove Road, Stoke Newington; Chatsworth Road, Lower Clapton; and St Paul’s Road, Highbury.

The youth, from Croydon, cannot be named because of his age. He appeared at Wood Green Crown Court this morning by video-link. He spoke only to confirm his name before entering not guilty pleas to 12 charges.

They include six counts of throwing a corrosive liquid with intent to “disable, burn, maim, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm”, two counts of robbery and four counts of attempted robbery.

He also denied a further charge of robbery of a moped on June 25.

Judge Noel Lucas QC remanded the youth in custody until the trial on January 8 at Wood Green Crown Court, which is expected to take up to seven days.
