A charity that goes door to door offering help to vulnerable people has been handed £28,000

Help on Your Doorstep-Connect (HOYDC) was given the cash by former Mayor of Islington, Cllr Phil Kelly, who was patron of the charity during his time wearing the chains.

Each year, the new mayor launches an appeal for their chosen charity.

This year’s incumbent mayor Jilani Chowdhury is raising cash for the Manor Gardens Trust which provides healthcare services for more than 2,000 people each week.

Ken Kanu, director of HOYD, said: “We are overwhelmed by the generosity of all who supported the Mayor’s charity appeal last year.It means we can fund an outreach and referral worker for one year.

“Hundreds experiencing poverty, isolation and disadvantage in our community will get help.”
