A man who killed a teenager when his car collided with a moped has been banned from driving for 18 months.

Faruq Bilal, 23, collided with Michael McGuiness, 18, at the junction of Southgate Road and Downham Road, De Beauvoir, on May 9 last year.

Mr McGuiness, who lived in Essex Road and was riding a stolen moped at the time, died at the scene at about 2am.

He was riding alongside a friend who was later arrested for fleeing the scene of the crash.

Bilal, of Burma Road, Stoke Newington, was arrested following the incident.

He pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Blackfriars Crown Court on July 17. He was given a 12 month community order, will have to complete 200 hours of unpaid work and was banned from driving for 18 months.
