A good samaritan who tried to stop a group of men being racially abused was attacked on Friday night.

British Transport Police (BTP) are appealing for witnesses following the assault which happened after a man boarded a London Overground train at Upper Holloway and directed his tirade towards an Asian passenger and two other men nearby.

Investigating officer Pc Greig Watkins said the victim, a 32-year-old from Walthamstow, intervened as the train approached Blackhorse Road. “As a result, he was punched several times in the face, sustaining cuts and bruising,” he said.

He continued: “The man made extremely offensive comments to three men who were simply making their way home.

The man was white, aged around 20 and 5ft 10ins tall. He had fair hair and was wearing trousers with paint marks on them. Anyone with information can contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
