Police officers came under attack last night, when they tried to arrest a man at a block of flats in Islington.

Scotland Yard said officers used tear gas after they were “surrounded by a group of people” in Arbon Court, Linton Street at 7.30pm.

Six people were arrested for offences including public order and assault.

Some officers were reportedly assaulted during the incident, although no one is believed to have been injured.

Back up was drafted in and the police helicopter was scrambled.

A spokesman said only that officers had initially been called to “reports of a disturbance” at the block of flats.

The six people were this morning still in custody.

Officers from the Met’s central north command are investigating what happened. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or tweet police them: @MetCC. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
