Elizabeth Avenue Group Practice has been taped off, and police and ambulance crews are now at the scene.

The surgery’s manager told the Gazette one of their patients had been stabbed.

Scotland Yard said officers were first called to Rotherfield Court at 8.41am. Shortly after police were called again to the surgery 150 metres up the road, just past Rotherfield Primary School.

A spokesman said officers had arrested a man on suspicion of GBH.

“The victim’s injuries are not life-threatening, but possibly life-changing,” he said.

A witness to the aftermath told the Gazette: “It was just as all the kids were going to school. It’s terrible they had to see that.”

Elizabeth Avenue Group Practice is still open to patients, who are being directed through the surgery’s back door behind the car park rather than the main entrance.

Any witnesses are asked to call 101.
