A DRUG dealer who supplied undercover police officers with rocks of crack from his bottom was caged for two years today (Monday).
David Escobar, 18, of Crayford Road, Holloway, had nine “bum” wraps of the Class A narcotic stuffed between his buttock cheeks when he was stopped not far from his home.
During a strip search at the police station, officers also found Escobar had three wraps of heroin in his backside.
Escobar claimed he had been forced at gunpoint to stash the drugs in his rear end, but was convicted last month by jurors after a two-day trial.
Sentencing Escobar to two years in a young offenders’ institution at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the judge, Mr Recorder Adrian Lynch QC, said: “The custody threshold has been passed.”
Recorder Lynch said that because Escobar maintained his defence of duress he could not be dealt with by way of community rehabilitation.
The trial heard a plain clothes detective arrested restaurant porter Escobar, the son of a head chef, after officers spotted him in Hillmarton Road, Holloway, on June 22 last year.
Prosecutor Peter Clark had told jurors: “The defendant appeared, when he spoke to him [the officer], to be extremely nervous.
“That aroused some suspicion.
“They carried out a search of him at the scene - that search was negative.
“But in fact they did take him to the police station.
“At the police station they conducted a more intimate search.
“The defendant was reluctant to remove his clothing.
“Between the cheeks of his bottom they found a small plastic bag containing 12 wraps.
“It is nine wraps of crack cocaine and three wraps of diamorphine which is the technical name for what we all know as heroin.
“Wraps, the prosecution say, in precisely the way you would have them for supplying them on the street.
“The defendant also had with him £70 odd in cash, consistent, the prosecution say, in having already sold some.”
But Escobar claimed: “I had a gun held to my head and was told to supply it - it ain’t for me.”
Escobar was convicted of two counts of possessing a controlled drug of Class A with intent to supply.
