Ibrahim Ali died after an argument over the price of a drink at a party in Tottenham saw him and a friend get into a fight which spilled out onto the street.

He was stabbed in the stomach so viciously his intestines were exposed and was found collapsed in the reception of a cab firm about 100 metres away. He was pronounced dead less than two hours later at the Royal London Hospital.

Yesterday Chez Degoze, 28, of Coleridge Road, Finsbury Park, Rhys Brown, 21, of Craven Park Road, South Tottenham, and Lemar Martin, 18, of Ermine Road, South Tottenham, were found guilty at the Old Bailey of Ibrahim’s murder, and unlawful wounding of his 20-year-old friend who escaped his knife-wielding attackers.

The fight broke out at a party in Stamford Close, South Tottenham, when Ibrahim and his friend were part of a group asked to leave at around 4.55am following the argument.

The fight spilled out onto the street and Ibrahim and his friend began to walk away, not wanting to get involved.

But at the junction of Stamford Road and Broad Lane, they were attacked.

Police discovered that the attack was in revenge for a fight between two groups at The Goose pub in Wood Green on February 9, 2013, in which one of Degoze’s brothers suffered serious head injuries.

The opposing group included Ibrahim’s friend, who was also attacked after the party, suffering several wounds to his head and elbow. He managed to escape, running to Tottenham Hale rail station.

Detectives found that Degoze’s girlfriend Tara Phillips had been at The Goose that night and was also at the party, relaying the movements of Ibrahim’s friend to Degoze, who was waiting outside in her car.

She later lied to police, saying her boyfriend was called John rather than Degoze and wasn’t at the party that night.

Searches of the crime scene revealed a bag containing two knives and a baseball bat and another knife propped up against an adjacent wall. Two of the blades revealed traces of blood from both victims.

In police interview Martin admitted receiving a calling from Degoze on the night of the murder asking for help to get knives.

He then made his way to the party where he met Degoze and Brown outside. Degoze stated they were “going to get the two they are after”.

Degoze and Brown then stabbed Ibrahim and his friend; Martin, also armed with a knife, chased after the victim’s friend as he fled but couldn’t catch him. The trio then reunited and made off, disposing of the knives on the way.

Phillips, 33, of Cheffins Road, Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire, was found not guilty of murder and attempted murder but had previously pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. All four will be sentenced tomorrow.

Det Insp Mark Lawson, investigating officer, said: “This was a brutal and calculated revenge attack... We welcome the convictions today.

“It was predictable that the defendants didn’t have the courage to plead guilty and take responsibility for their actions given the cowardly nature of their attack on Ibrahim. One can scarcely imagine the heartbreak suffered by Ibrahim’s family who are still struggling to come to terms with the loss of their son.”
