A street art mural in honour of a young man who was stabbed to death has been redesigned.

Tom Easton was killed at the EC1 Music Project studio in Old Street, Clerkenwell, in 2006 and the tribute was created in his memory near the scene four years later.

Last Friday, underground artist Ben Eine revamped the mural with the new message ‘Worth More’ which encourages young people to think twice before using a weapon.

Peter Sinclair, partner of Tom’s mother Delores Altaras, said: “The last mural read ‘Change’ so it was a question of changing attitudes. Now with ‘Worth More’ we want young people on the street carrying knives to know they are worth more. Instead of using a knife to harm someone else, they can achieve so much more.”

In an unprovoked attack at the recording studio Tom, 22, was stabbed more than 20 times by Barrington McKenzie from Plaistow, who had a history of mental illness.

The sound engineer was working for the council helping under-privileged children at the time of his death.

Family and friends later set up the Flavasum Trust which supports art projects opposing knife crime.

Mr Eine, 41, who has work on show in the White House, said: “We aim to do something positive rather than negative and reach out to children armed with knives.”

The mural and plaque will remain in place until 2013.
