A massive crime crackdown in Finsbury Park saw one of Islington’s most wanted burglars arrested on Friday.
Wesley Hendrickson, 25, formerly of Holloway Road, Holloway, was spotted by an eagle-eyed police officer and was arrested on a recall to prison.
Officers from Hackney, Islington and Haringey, along with the British Transport Police and councils from all three boroughs, joined forces to crack down on all types of offences ranging from environmental health breaches to burglary and driving-related offences in Blackstock Road and Seven Sisters Road.
10 arrests were made on the day, including six people on suspicion of immigration offences, one for carrying an offensive weapon, one arrest for scrap metal offences and one arrest for fraud.
A car was seized as the driver had no insurance.
In addition, more than 50 bikes were security marked, about 20 bikes were checked or repaired, and 20 mobiles were registered with a theft prevention app.
Insp Richard Berns, of Hackney Police, said: “Operation Pentagon 2 is the second phase of a large multi agency initiative. Blackstock and Seven Sisters roads have historically been areas of crime concern and although some great reductions have been achieved, there is always room for improvement.
“The aims of this operation are multifaceted to enhance relationships between the agencies involved, to enforce all aspects of the law and in so doing reduce all crime types. Although the main objective of the operation was not arrests, some great arrests were made, Islington’s most wanted being among them. We will continue to concentrate on this locality and ensure it gets the policing it deserves.”
Insp Richard Padwell, of Islington Police, said: “This was a fantastic joint operation with five police teams working with three councils in one of London’s busiest areas. The emphasis was on crime prevention and improving the local environment and we received a lot of very positive feedback from local residents. It was a bonus to spot one of Islington’s most wanted and return him to prison.”
