A pre-Notting Hill Carnival ‘block party’ in Finsbury Park turned nasty on Wednesday night when a teenager was stabbed and a police officer was slashed in the face.
The illegal rave had been advertised on Twitter under the hashtag #PreCarnivalBlockParty and took a nasty turn when a teenager, thought to have been attending, was found in nearby Moray Road with a stab wound to his leg at 9.45pm.
Around the same time, an Islington local heard a noise thought to be a gunshot, although police have had no reports of shooting, and police helicopters were scrambled. The Territorial Support Group also attended, with four riot vans.
Hundreds of revellers attended the illegal street party and brawled with police. One officer has been taken to hospital with facial injuries, and a party-goer was arrested for possession of an offensive weapon, thought to be a blade of some kind.
The officer was taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw.
Many of the partygoers are thought to be young teenagers, with Twitter users reminding them that they needed to pick up their GCSE results in the morning.
Police stayed at the scene until 3am when the party broke up. A Twitter user who lives nearby said she found a knife in her garden that morning.
NOTE: This article has been updated to reflect the nature of the police officer’s injuries and to clarify that the statements regarding a knife found in a garden were made on Twitter.
The illegal rave happened the same day that the Metropolitan Police performed dawn raids to stop crime at the Carnival, seizing drugs, machine guns and thousands of pounds in cash.
