It was a carnival atmosphere at St Andrew’s Primary School on Friday as a pair of students showed off their creative flair.

Raphael Estavia and Kaycee Cullen were invited by teachers to show off the outfits they wore to the Mahogany Carnival band’s costume launch in July, ahead of dancing in the streets for Notting Hill Carnival a month later.

Mahogany is a group of multi-disciplinary artists who design and create large-scale carnival costumes for masquerade events or street theatre.

As it’s not every day you can walk around school dressed as a dinosaur – and in particular a Utahraptor that is hatching from its egg – the eight-year-olds jumped at the chance.

Raphael’s grandmother is from Trinidad and is heavily involved in the Notting Hill Carnival.

The youngster has been involved for four years and invited Kaycee to join in the fun three years ago.
