An impressive set of results at Highbury Fields school saw 95 per cent of girls score A* to C in the crucial subject English Language.

This bucks the national trend – grades in English fell across the country as a whole.

Overall, 65 per cent of pupils at the Highbury Hill school managed the benchmark five A* to C grades, including maths and English, slightly below the national average of 68.8 per cent.

Olivia Smith, 16, got two A*s, four As and three Bs. She said: “It was a lot of hard work, so I’m really pleased with how it turned out.

“I liked drama the best, so I’ll carry on studying that. It would be great to be an actress one day. My favourite actor is Adam Sandler, he’s really funny.”

Billie Sophoclides, 16, who scored four A*s, four As and two Bs, said: “My grades are about what I thought, but not in the subjects I expected.

“All my friends are going to the same college, so were all going to head up there now.”

Tanjina Uddin, 16, managed a whopping five A*s and five As and said: “I didn’t think I’d get these grades, they’re much better than I thought.

“I’m going to college and then I want to study medicine.”

Lola May, 16, who got four A*s, six As and one B, was less pleased. She said: “I am bit disappointed with the B. But I ended up doing 24 exams, so it was pretty tough.”

Meanwhile Miriam Addo, 16, achieved nine A*s, one A and one B. She said: “I haven’t spoken to my family yet but I’m really excited to tell them – I’ve done better than I thought.”

And Anjuma Uddin, 16, who managed eight A*s and three As, ssid: “I am very happy with the results, now I can go on and study biology.”
