A goose was rescued in Finsbury Park – after getting so covered in red paint that she couldn’t open her wings.

The Greylag was taken into RSPCA care after being spotted near the park pond last Tuesday. She had gone across the re-surfaced racetrack.

Collection officer Joe White said yesterday: “This bird had paint all over her. As well as her chest and body, it was even on her beak, legs and back.

“It was really rubbery, thick paint which almost glued the bird’s wings together. She was struggling to walk because the paint was so stuck together and certainly couldn’t fly properly.

“She would have struggled had she not been rescued, finding it hard to feed herself and vulnerable to attack.

“We managed to remove all the paint from her feathers and she is now in the care of South Essex Wildlife Hospital, where she is making a good recovery. Hopefully we can return her to the wild, where she belongs, soon.”
