Enraged homeowners and tenants have complained to the Gazette about missed bin and recycling collections ever since new times were introduced on February 6 – but figures show it’s only a tiny percentage.

The town hall said it was “very sorry” over the missed collections, which happened after new times came into force for about 50,000 properties.

Islington Council figures show its collection rate was 99.85 per cent in the first four weeks: that’s 690 missed collections. It has since improved to 99.87pc, which is 598 missed collections.

A spokesman said today: “Each week we undertake almost 460,000 collections of refuse, dry recycling, food and garden waste from residents.

“In the first week of the new arrangements our collection rate was 99.85pc, and within four weeks we had increased that to 99.87pc with the help of residents alerting us to missed collections.

“We are working hard on increasing this figure still further and would encourage residents to keep alerting us to any missed collections as the new arrangements bed in.”
