Neighbours of a renowned Holloway Road music venue no longer have to worry about clubgoers leaving human waste and used condoms outside their homes during the week.

Nambucca, located on the junction with Tollington Way, had applied to extend its 12.30am licence to close at 2.30am on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

This would have brought it in line with weekend hours, but resulted in angry protests from neighbours. The application to Islington Council has now been withdrawn.

In town hall documents, one neighbour had said: “Every weekend, after closing, pub patrons can be seen urinating and on occasion defecating around our property.

“It is not unusual to see the leftover debris of drug use, rubbish, empty bottles and vomit.

“An extension of the licence will mean these experiences will again become frequent.”

Another neighbour said: “Noise from music played can be heard very clearly in my flat. Extending this to most of the week including work days will be highly disruptive.

“Many of them end up in our off-street parking area behind. Amongst other things they urinate, vomit and have sex in that area. They leave behind litter such as broken bottles, used condoms and sanitary napkins.”

The plans had been scheduled to go before Islington’s licensing sub committee meeting in the town hall tomorrow night.

But Nambucca’s events manager, Zachery Stephenson, explained why the application had been taken off the agenda.

“The event we really wanted to put the extension in for wasn’t working, so we decided it wasn’t worth the hastle to pursue it.

“If neighbours are upset they have no need to worry.”

Nambucca is known for hosting up-and-coming artists.

The Libertines, Florence and the Machine, Laura Marling and Frank Turner are among the artists to have played at the venue when they started out.
