Overall 67 per cent of pupils achieved five A* to C grades including English and Maths and they also bucked the national trend of a decline in English results, with 75 per cent of students hitting a C or above in English Language, up front 66 per cent last year.

Pupils also achieved 10 per cent above the “national progress” in both English and maths which maps their expected grades based on previous results.

Outstanding results were achieved by Edmund Adonis who notched up 13A*s including Mandarin and Nima Ackbari and Effie Crompton who also bagged 12 grades at an A or A* each.

Paul Hollingum, executive principal, said: “We are really delighted with these results.

“They reflect both the hard work of our pupils and the measures in place to ensure that every child leaves St Mary Magdalene Academy with a comprehensive set of qualifications.

“We want every child to make outstanding progress and be well prepared for their next steps, whether that is an academic or vocational route.”

The academy had sensational results in languages with every pupil who took Mandarin, French and German getting a C or better with 90 per cent in Spanish.

The sciences were also a strength for students at the school with 90 per cent scoring A* to C in chemistry, biology and physics.
