The 60 submissions in the Imaginings exhibition give a glimpse into the imagination of the 25 artists and include many abstract paintings reflecting their life experiences, thinking processes and insights.

As part of its support work, the Creativity Centre at the Isledon Road Mental Health Recovery Centre, part of Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, promotes the value of art for therapy.

Service users can experiment with colour, paint and clay to express feelings they otherwise could not.

One exhibitor, Cheryl Tscherewik, said: “Creativity is a good way to express my thoughts. I like to create visual images. I can be absorbed by it.”

Another artist at the centre, Sue Lyons, added: “Painting helps to ease my mind and gives me a purpose. Without it I’d be lost.”

The exhibition runs at Hornsey Library in Haringey Park until Monday.
