A boxing club known for rearing international champions is celebrating its 40th birthday.
Islington Boxing Club (IBC) was founded as King’s Cross ABC by a publican, a police officer and a railwayman in 1974.
It now boasts the likes of Olympic gold medallist Audley Harrison as a former member.
The club, in Hazellville Road, Archway, is attended by more than 1,000 boxers of all levels – making it one of Britain’s most popular.
Many female boxers are stepping into the ring at IBC and competitors have traded blows as far afield as South Africa, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden.
The club celebrated its milestone with a bumper night of fights at the Boston Dome, Tufnell Park, on Thursday night.
