A new 161 bedroom hotel is set to take over an old 1960’s block in Archway as part of the area’s regeneration.

Plans to the convert the eight-storey Hamyln House, in Highgate Hill, into a Premier Inn were unveiled by parent company Whitbread this week.

The company say the current building behind Archway Tube station is largely vacant, and the new hotel will create jobs and bring thousands of visitors to the area.

If everything goes to plan, the company hope to start work next summer with a view to completing in 2014.

Archway is earmarked for a number of regeneration projects which include getting rid of the much-hated gyratory system.

Derek Griffin, from Whitbread, said: “We believe the plans will act as a catalyst for wider regeneration of the area.

“It will create new jobs and training opportunities as well as bringing new visitors to the area every year.”

The plans will be on display in Hamyln House itself on Tuesday and Wednesday next week (December 4 and 5), from

5 to 9pm.
