Kat Fletcher, 33, who ran the Tufnell Park Tavern from 2010 to 2012 and is now in charge of the Lansdowne in Primrose Hill, is standing for a St George’s Ward seat as a Labour candidate on March 21.

The Lib Dem candidate is Julian Gregory, a 32-year-old barrister who lives in Islington, while Evan Williams, a 29-year-old accountant from Barnsbury, will be standing for the Conservatives and Jon Nott, a 40 year-old chief executive of a children’s charity, who lives in Holloway, is the Green Party candidate.

Another part of north Islington will have a new councillor in March as the voters of Junction ward head to the polls.

Up for the Lib Dems is Stefan Kasprzyk, 62, who was elected mayor of Islington in 2008 and is now retired.

The St George’s ward by-election was called after incumbent Labour councillor Jessica Asato quit her post to chase a parliamentary seat in Norwich, while Arthur Graves, an independent councillor at Junction ward also stepped down.

More than 18,000 voters can have their say in the two by-election, which take place on March 21.
