A nine-year-old girl was taken to hospital after a collision with a car outside her school this morning.

The Thornhill Primary pupil suffered a cut lip in the incident involving a black Honda in Lofting Road, Barnsbury at about 8.50am.

No one was arrested, and police say the injuries are neither life-threatening or life-changing.

One parent who dropped her child off at the school just after the accident, said: “It’s a really nasty junction which gets super busy in the morning.

“It’s not really surprising that someone should get hurt there, and I’ve seen accidents happen in the past.

“And it’s obviously alarming for a kid to get hurt so close to a school.”

Matt Chappel, headteacher of the Thornhill Road, said: “One of our pupils was injured by a car on a nearby road on her way into school. She was taken to hospital and thankfully her injuries aren’t serious but she and her family are obviously shaken up by what happened.

“Everyone at Thornhill wishes her a speedy recovery. Incidents like this highlight why the work we do around road safety with our pupils and parents is so important.”
