Archant

Angry parents slammed school chiefs over a hole in a fence which led a 13-year-old boy to his death.

The boy, from Cardinals Way, Hornsey Rise, died after falling through the roof of the former Archway School.

He and his friends had got into the playground after school hours through a large gap in fencing in Duncombe Road, Hornsey Rise.

Two months after his death, the gap had not been plugged and children were still entering the playground.

His mum said: “If that hole had not been there my son would be alive today. Everthing in that school is a danger to children.”

At a Westminster Coroners’ Court inquest, a coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death, saying: “He must have known he should not have been in the grounds, and certainly not on the roof.”

The Inner London Education Authority said: “We have repeatedly boarded up this hole but it keeps being pulled down again.”
