Archant

An Islington man attacked a cafe owner because a jukebox didn’t play any music.

The jukebox only accepted sixpences. When the 23-year-old, from Penton Street, loaded a threepence into the machine, he was angered when no music came out.

So he stormed over to the Tottenham Court Road cafe owner and asked: “Are you being funny?” He then produced a knife. Clerkenwell Magistrates’ Court heard he jumped over the counter and asked his victim if he wanted to be “cut up”.

He ran away when someone shouted the police were coming. He was remanded to appear at the Old Bailey.

Meanwhile, an 80-year-old woman was killed after a wardrobe outside a furniture store was blown over by a gust of wind and fell on top of her in Holloway Road.

The woman, from Finsbury Park, later died of her injuries in hospital. A coroner ruled it was “accidental death”.
