A Highbury pub has had its speakers impounded by Islington Council after breaching noise warnings.

The White House pub, in Highbury New Park, was also prosecuted for allowing people to smoke shisha in its rear garden against Government rules.

Equipment was seized from the pub after repeat complaints from local residents about late-night noise on the council’s anti-social behaviour hotline.

On July 11, Highbury Magistrates’ Court convicted the licensee and the “shisha garden” manager of three counts of failing to prevent people smoking in a smokefree place under the Health Act 2006.

Both were fined £400 for each count, and ordered to pay £437.50 costs and £40 victim surcharge each, a total of £3,355.

Cllr Paul Convery, Islington Council’s executive member for community safety, said: “The volume of noise coming from this pub was completely unacceptable - especially after repeated warnings - and seizing equipment was our last resort.
