HMV’s flagship technology store in Upper Street is set to close this month.
The shop at the N1 Centre in Parkfield Street will officially shut on January 25.
Staff at the store, which was geared towards a technology focus in 2011, say the shop is being closed due to a rise in rent.
Some employees will be relocated to other London stores including HMV’s Oxford Street shop.
The closure comes a year after the company went in to administration and was snapped up by retail restructuring specialists Hilco.
Gill Stamp, a regular customer at the store, said the closure would be a loss to Islington.
“It’s such a shame, it’s always packed and all the staff are very friendly and really helpful,” said Mrs Stamp, 77, of Lofting Road.
“I went in there the other day and I had to leave because it was so busy, I can’t understand why it would close.”
HMV refused to comment on why the store was closing.
