An ice cream festival will come to King’s Cross this weekend.

The free, family-friendly two-day festival, in Granary Square, showcases the best ice creams available in London and celebrates the history and production of the frozen treat.

Ice cream was first brought to England in 1851 by Swiss national Carlo Gatti who worked from his home in King’s Cross, selling gelato for one penny and coining the phrase the “penny lick”.

Families and ice cream enthusiasts attending the festival can learn how ice cream is made, milk one of the cows in the petting farm or help to make ice cream using the latest in nitrogen technologies or learning.

Visitors will also be able to watch and take part in ice cream art, build a sand castle on the Granary Square beach and experience a taste of history.

Among those selling their treats will be Sorbitium Ices which sell from King’s Cross’s Eat Street.

The free event will run from 11am to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday.
