The importance of local newspapers in serving their communities was celebrated last week.

Local Newspaper Week showcased the role publications such as the Gazette play in providing a voice for readers, holding politicians to account and shining a light on positives in areas they serve.

To mark the occasion, the Gazette team will hold a readers’ surgery at Islington’s N1 Centre in Parkfield Street on Thursday to hear your views on what issues you want us to be highlighting.

Established in 1856, we’re one of north London’s oldest established newspapers and pride ourselves on exploring the big and small issues that matter to the borough.

During the past year, major events such as the London Riots, landmark court cases including the recent Sam Hallam appeal and the ongoing impact of council cutbacks have all been covered by the Gazette, as well as the many good news stories about inspiring local people and community events.

And over the next few months, we will be pulling out all the stops to document the community coming together in celebration of two of the biggest events of the century – the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics.

Come and tell the Gazette your news between 2pm and 4pm.
